Over this year's Spring Break, we sent four groups of UNL students on Alternative Service Break Trips! Each group went to a different location; Denver, Kansas City, and two different sites in San Antonio. The groups had a blast! Check out pictures of one of the San Antonio trips at our facebook group page.
Keep checking the blog, the facebook group, and listen for our tweets for more exciting UNL Service-Learning news!

We made you a promise...
We promised to tell you about the SERVE model and we are keeping our word.
The SERVE model contains five steps, which you may have figured out by viewing the right side of our blog. The five steps are:
Select a Service
Educate and Inform
Respond to Need
Value Significance and Reflect
Evaluate and Celebrate
We will explain each step over the next week or two. Let's begin with Select a Service.
To put the SERVE model into practice, one must find a community agency that exhibits a real need for service. When deciding on a project one must ask him or herself whether their efforts truly reflect the community needs. One must keep in mind, when planning the service, to keep it centered around the needs of the agency, and clarify the steps that will be taken to make sure the project is challenging and engaging to those participating and the community.
There is the first step of the SERVE model. Keep watch for our next post on Educate and Inform.
